BEC. WEEK OF APRIL 2nd - 6th , Unit 4

Look at the categories below. For each make a questions. For example:

1. “has gone skiing”
– the questions is: “Have you ever gone skiing?”

7. “goes on family vacations every year’
The question: “Do you go on family vacations every year.

10. “met a new friend on vacation”
– the question: Did you meet a new friend on vacation?

18. “is scared of heights” – the question: “Are you scared of heights?”

Also for each question, ask a follow up question.
Student A: “have you ever gone skiing?”
Student B: “Yes, I have.”
Student A: (write student B’s name and ask a follow up question) “Where have you gone skiing?”
Student B: “I’ve gone skiing to Bear Town.

Find someone who:

Name:
1. has gone skiing
2. has been to China
3. has gone to USA
4. has been to Europe
5. has been to Caribbean Bay at Everland
6. has been to Japan
7. goes on family vacations every year
8. has been to the border with North Korea (or in North Korea)
9. prefers vacationing with friends rather than the family
10. met a new friend on vacation
11. likes the snow more than the beach
12. has been to Australia
13. travels light (not a lot of luggage)
14. has gotten a bad sunburn
15. has been to the Philippines
16. has been to Canada
17. is scared of deep water
18. is scared of heights
19. has a vacation souvenir
20. has been to Kyongju

Events that will happen in the future are expressed in English in three ways:

1. "will" + verb
2. "be going to" + verb
3. am/is/are verb-ing ( I am meeting some friends after work)

1. "will" + verb

"will" future expresses:

a) voluntary action - you will or will not do something out of your own free will.

You will help him later.
Will you help him later?
You will not help him later.


b) a promise

I will marry you next year.
She will do the dishes.
I won't (will not) tell anyone your secret.

c) a predictioin

It looks like it'll rain.

2. "be going to" + verb

"be going to" future expresses:

a) plan or intention to do something in the future


He is going to spend his vacation in Hawaii.
Is he going to spend his vacation in Hawaii?

He's not going to spend his vacation in Hawaii.

A: When are we going to meet each other tonight?
B: We are going to meet at 6 PM.

I'm going to be an actor when I grow up.
Michelle is going to begin medical school next year.
They are going to drive all the way to Alaska.
Who are you going to invite to the party?

A: Who is going to make John's birthday cake?
B: Sue is going to make John's birthday cake.

b) prediction that something will happen in the future

Hillary Clinton is going to be the next President of the USA.
I am going to get an A+ on the next quiz.

HOMEWORK:

Write a postcard from your imaginary vacation spot. Say:
1. where you are
2. who are you with
3. what's the weather like
4. what is there to see /visit
5. what's the food like
6. special drinks
6. what did you buy as a souvenir

Example:

Dear Susan,
I'm in Agra, India on vacation with my boyfriend. We're having a wonderful time!
The weather is warm and sunny. Yesterday, we visited the famous Taj Mahal. It is so big and beautiful. I took many pictures. Tomorrow we will visit The Amber Fort.
There are so many elephants and camels on the roads. Indian food is delicious. I especially like Indian bread roti and chicken curry. Indian tea is also delicious. I drink a few cups every day. I bought lots of sils scarves and camel leather bags.
I'm having a great time, and I wish you were here. Love. Bianca
